Hi everyone! So it is the day before my flight and my anxiety is at an all time high. It's dawning on me that soon, I'll be leaving the comfort of this paradise I call home, and embarking on a journey which will take me to the opposite end of the world. Big shout out to the University of Hawaii at Manoa Study Abroad Center (UHMSC) for making this amazing opportunity possible!
As far as packing goes, I managed to pack everything I need: Clothes, shoes, books, dental stuff, a roll of toilet paper, passport, International Student ID Card, Acceptance Letter, a little bit of sand, come chocolate covered macadamia nuts, and lots of Aloha. I feel like I'll end up forgetting something regardless, but when do I ever not? At least the hardest part was already out of the way. Although packing was easy, the application process was no walk in the park. I highly recommend you start early! Thankfully, I have an awesome study abroad adviser with an enthusiastic attitude, who is very knowledgeable in her field as well. From scholarship opportunities to paperwork inquiries, Allison Yap has been fantastic at providing me with the support I needed. Keep doing what you do Allison!

Aloha everyone! Just wanted to send a shout out to Mr. William Johnson of Johnson Machinery Co. Thanks to this man's generous donation to the Shidler College of Business here at UH Manoa, I am able to receive much needed financial support for my study abroad ventures. By offering me a scholarship to help cover my program expenses, Mr. Johnson is investing in my future. Much respect to him for giving minority students like myself the opportunity to pursue an overseas education, which may not otherwise be possible without his selfless contribution. As a proud Johnson Scholar, I will fully utilize my privilege to expand my global networking and multi-cultural understanding.
My program of choice was the London Study Abroad Program. I will be attending the University of Roehampton (UR) in London, and I firmly believe the experience will allow me to better myself by offering me a global business education and the unique opportunity to strengthen both my communication and interpersonal skills through cross-cultural outreach to UR students. In addition, as a representative of UH Manoa, I hope to strengthen ties between our universities for future collaboration and to promote study abroad to future students by using my personal experience as an example. |
